Mary was a talented seamstress who sewed and made her own clothes for special events, including weddings, and created outfits for her children when they were young. She learned to bake and ran a small bakery, becoming famous for her cheesecakes. Mary had a passion for reading and was excellent at writing; she once wrote to the editor of a local newspaper about an article she read, and her letter was published.

Mary deeply loved her family and extended family. She was known for her good sense of humor and her insightful nature, with an exceptional ability to read people well. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings at her home, creating many cherished memories for her loved ones.

Obituary Preview: William Vito Battista (Bill) of Rockaway Point passed away on May 9th, 2024.

Bill was born in Brooklyn NY in 1941 to Mary (Rella) Battista, and Gerard Charles Battista.

As a child, Bill enjoyed spending his summers at Rockaway Point at the beach swimming and catching eels with his cousins and grandmother.

Bill attended Brooklyn Technology High School and at 17 years old, he entered the workforce. After a few years, he decided to pursue a career in the New York Police Department.

He was granted a scholarship to Saint Francis College and graduated with honors in Sociology and Urban Studies.

While in the Force, he became inspired to obtain a law degree. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1983 and continued his law work after retirement. He retired from the NYPD after 36 years of service and achieved the rank of Inspector.

Bill is survived by his three sons William, Robert (Laura), and Brian, his three granddaughters Kristen, Mia, and Ava, his sister Angela, his brother John, his cousin Francis, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bill had many memories that carried him forward and left a fulfilled life with a legacy of wisdom and humor that will carry on for generations.

Obituary Preview: Leo J. Wisniewski, aged 88, of Brooklyn, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Weill Cornell Presbyterian Hospital. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his entire family and was holding hands with his beloved wife, Maryjane (Vassallo) Wisniewski. He was born on July 16, 1935, in Scranton, PA, the son of the late Leo Walter and Mary (Wenglowski) Wisniewski. Leo shared 67 beautiful years of marriage with Maryjane, leaving behind a legacy of profound love and unwavering devotion.

A loving father to Wayne Wisniewski, Maryjane Kresic (Mladen), and Robert Wisniewski (Lisa), Leo was a dedicated patriarch who guided his family with wisdom and care. He was a source of endless joy and inspiration to his grandchildren: Briana (Isaac), Emily, William (Lyndsay), John Wayne, Alexander, Meredith, Robert, Grant, John Thomas, and Hannah, and he delighted in the presence of his great-grandchildren, Isaac and Isabel.

Devoting his career to industrial engineering, Leo designed many warehouses for large corporations, and proceeded to use his skills in educating the next generation. He served as a Teacher at Brooklyn Technical High School, where he imparted knowledge and wisdom to countless students. His passion for teaching extended to his specialization in C.A.D., and his commitment to excellence was recognized with the Teacher of the Year award. His love of architecture continued into his retirement years, as he helped all of his children design and renovate their homes.

Leo's commitment to service was lifelong, as he dedicated 55 years to the Masonic community, serving for the Grand Lodge for the State of NY and Bunting Charity Lodge – 727. He exemplified the Masonic principles of brotherhood and compassion and was honored as Mason of the Year in his district. His volunteer work was a testament to his generous spirit and unwavering dedication to making a difference. He served as a director of the New York State Masonic Toys for Tots Foundation, demonstrating his commitment to helping those in need. He was the recipient of several awards for his charity work, both from the Council of the City of NY and from the Grand Lodge of NY.

Leo also cherished spending time in the mountains with his children and grandchildren in Highland Lakes, New Jersey. He particularly loved fly-fishing on the lake and had a great passion for the outdoors, which he enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren.

A devout member of the Polish National Catholic Church, Leo found solace and community in his faith throughout his life.

Obituary Preview: Paul Chisefsky, 91 passed away on Thursday May 2, 2024. He is survived by his son, Paul (Doreen) and daughter Christine Galvin (Kenneth). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Rebecca, Patrick, Jillian, Ryan, and Maura. Ann, his wife of 52 years passed away in 2011. Paul was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was the youngest of five children born to John and Josephine Chisefsky. He served in the army during the Korean Conflict as a helicopter mechanic. For many years Paul owned a neighborhood discount store called “The Junk Store”. In later years he was living independently in his home up until last year when a fall caused him to reside at the Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care.

Margaret passed on the morning of April 26th peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family members.

Born in Manhattan on June 29, 1938, she later moved to Brooklyn with her beloved husband, Salvatore, where they became parents to their four sons. Margaret was a strong woman who, when widowed in 1974, remarkably raised her four boys on her own.

Margaret spent the majority of her career at Brooklyn College, most notably serving as an Executive Assistant to the Provost and President. Upon her retirement she became active in the arts and travel. She was a prolific painter and had a particular love for Italy, visiting many times throughout the years.

Her lasting legacy will be the beauty and depth of family ties she created.

Margaret is survived by her sons Anthony, John, Matthew and Andrew and her three daughters-in-law, Heather, Jo Anne and Allison. Her loving grandchildren, Isabella, Nicholas, Mia, Juliana, Marcello and Rocco brought her the utmost joy. Id like to begin by expressing how grateful I am to each of you for being here.

My mother, Rose Marie Baez, was born to Nancy and Louis Stenza on March 21st, 1936. her father called her "My depression baby" Her father swore that she would never want for anything because my mother was born during the depression.

Raised in a brownstone in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, she lived in a traditional American Italian home where the family occupied the entire brownstone. Everyone knew each other's business and enjoyed the constant company of family, friends, and neighbors.

My mother was a loving and very obedient child. As a toddler, she inherited the nickname "Cookie" from her uncle Tony, which stuck with her into adulthood. She was the prize recipient of award competitions for speech, where she watched her father beam when she was awarded first prize.

My mother was fashionable, funny, intelligent, well-read, and always very happy as a young woman. She attended Central Needle Trades High School, where she again was awarded prizes and won contests for her fashion design sketches. The hallways of Central Needle Trade were adorned with her fashionable drawings. It was on the steps of central needle trade, that she met my father, Gerry. From age 15, my parents kept company. My father eventually enlisted into the service, and my mother having stars in her eyes for only him, waited patiently for him to return. She would regularly send care packages, write letters, and exchange pictures. They married in 1956.

In 1957, my brother Gregory was born, the first precious child. I came along 1964, and I could not have experienced more love.

My mother was a loving and fiercely protective parent. Though protective, she did not shield my brother and me from preparation for the world. She was as sweet as any mother could be, waking us by singing at the foot of our beds in the morning and always looking beautiful and ready to conquer the day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were always perfect, delicious, and plentiful. There was always enough to feed anyone who would walk through the door. More often than not, friends and family knew they could visit any time and sit down for a meal, coffee, cake, goodies, laughter, and good conversation. She had the Knack of making everyone feel like family. My parent's house was regularly filled with friends and laughter. The coffee pot was always perking on the stove, and that specific aroma when the perk was done remains in my internal senses. I remember the milkman delivering milk and eggs in the white metal box near the back door. I remember the fuller brush man and his cleaning products. I recall the seltzer man because my parents never kept soda in the house. hearing my mother's voice call for dinner when I was out playing with my friends, and the cookies and shot of scotch that were left for Santa for his stop at our house. I recall how my mother handled the rough questions I would ask as a child. She dealt with every question thoughtfully and always said the right thing. She walked me to grade school every morning and met me for lunch every day. She was an avid walker and reader. Those were indeed the good old days.

As much love as there was, sorrow eventually darkened our lives. In 1985, my precious brother Gregory suddenly passed on.

She spent a lifetime suffering over the loss of her only son. After her divorce from my father, she never remarried. Just prior to my parents’ divorce My mother gained full-time employment working for the Policeman's Benevolent Association. Monday through Friday. She woke every morning at 4:30AM out the door by 6:15AM, took public transportation to and from, and never complained about having to work.

As the years moved on, my parents developed a friendship. This friendship lasted until my father passed away in 2016. People who did not know my parents were surprised to learn that they were divorced. Their exuberance for being together, enjoying a meal together, and the fun-filled spirited conversation lasted many years.

My parents shared a love of animals, current events, political views, and strategies to resolve challenging situations.

My mother's consistent routines and rituals were enthusiasm for world news and politics, passion for her children, reading her daily posts from front to back, perfume, makeup, coffee, and balancing her checkbook. Getting up in the morning and always ready to run was her mantra. Her creative mind, attitude, and way of using words in difficult situations were her attributes. Her character was kindness to humanity, integrity of thought and action, and overwhelming generosity. She was honest, and I'm confident to say that my mother, Rose had a clean heart.

She would look at the sky and see art in the clouds. Her eyes twinkled when she would capture a vision and would always bring my attention to this figure. As a child, the moon was named Mr. Moon, and she would encourage me to look at the moon and talk about what I was seeing.

My mother, Rose, and I had a true mother-daughter bond bestowed by God's grace.

At night, I would never say good night or goodbye. Instead, I would kiss my mother every night and say, see you later and she would say in return “see you anytime”. I knew she would eventually move on from this existence, and we would see each other again in heaven, If I have a choice when I see her, I will call out to her, Mom, and we will continue our journey as mother and daughter. I was profoundly blessed and proud to have been the daughter of Rose.

So, Mom, I will see you later, and know that I could not have asked for a more loving, generous, and precious mother than I found in you. I love you forever.

Thomas then pursued to become the first treasurer of the CWA Local 1109. He is the son of the late Thomas Edward, Sr. and the late Jean (Gregory) Carroll. Beloved father of Thomas Edward Carroll III, Barbara Jean Carroll, Douglas Michael Carroll (Amy), Christine Carroll. Dear brother of Joanmarie Glover, Noreen Goodwin, Eugene Carroll and the late Katherine Patton. Adored grandfather of Patrick, Aidan, Maximilian, Ryleigh and Hayley.

Beloved mother of Barbara A. Staiti (Neil) and Christopher A. Ritchie (Kelly), and proud grandmother of Elizabeth, Samantha, Paul, Thorin, and Kaitlyn.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, as evidenced by her devout dedication to the Catholic Church. For over 40 years, Leona committed herself to serving the Brooklyn Diocese, first at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church and later at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church. Her guidance and wisdom were invaluable as she served as a trusted advisor to the past five pastors at St. Columba RC Church.

Leona's kindness, warmth, care, and compassion touched the lives of many, and her love extended beyond human relationships to encompass her affection for animals.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and honor Leona's life during the repose on Monday, April 29, from 2 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM at St. Columba R.C. Church, 2245 Kimball Street, Brooklyn, New York.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, April 30, also at St. Columba R.C. Church, officiated by Fr. Timothy Lambert.

Following the Mass, Leona will be laid to rest at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Joe’s patriotism was tremendous. With immense pride he enlisted in The United States Army at the age of nineteen, serving during The Korean War. While in service he was a recipient of multiple medals, including The Korean Service Medal, The Bronze Star, The Good Conduct Medal and The Purple Heart. He was modest, and never spoke of what he had done to earn these awards.

Joe had several occupations. He worked on ships in The Brooklyn Navy Yard, he worked with The MTA as a train mechanic, and spent more than thirty years with The Department of Environmental Protection.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he was very supportive and encouraging to them.

To say Joe had strong opinions would be an understatement. He enjoyed conversing and discussing anything and everything…debates were also an option. Joe was never without a response, and always had an answer. The Daily News must have binders of Joseph F. Campbell’s Letter to the Editor.

Thanks for the laughs, Dad/Popi! You were truly one of a kind! May you rest in peace.

Following his military service, Vincent continued to serve his community as a Police Officer with the NYPD, embodying the values of service, courage, and integrity in every aspect of his work.

Beyond his service, Vincent was a man of many passions. He found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether casting a line in the water while fishing, honing his skills on the pool table, or indulging his fascination with toy cars and trains. His love for speed and excitement was reflected in his enthusiasm for fast cars, and his loyalty to the Mets spoke to his unwavering devotion to his favorite team.

Vincent will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, his memory a beacon of light and inspiration to us all.
