Deputies: Fentanyl, other drugs, ammunition seized; Butler County man arrested (2024)

THE WAY. YEAH, ANOTHER STEAMY ONE OUT THERE TODAY, BUT AT LEAST WE’RE HALFWAY THROUGH THE WEEK. THANKS FOR JOINING US AT NOON. I’M MEGAN MITCHELL AND I’M KELLY RIPPIN, SO WE’RE GETTING CLOSER TO A DAY THAT WE WILL SEE RELIEF. LET’S CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST ADAM BURNISTON. BECAUSE, ADAM, EVEN WHEN THAT RELIEF DOES COME, IT MIGHT NOT BE FOR A VERY LONG TIME. YEAH. KELLY. MEGAN. DEFINITELY NOT VERY LONG. WITH ANY RELIEF RECEIVED. BUT FOR TODAY, THROUGH THESE NEXT FEW DAYS, BEFORE THAT RELIEF COMES OUR WAY, IT’S GOING TO BE STAYING STEAMY. YOU SEE, KIND OF A LITTLE BIT OF A HAZE OUT THERE. WINDS. NOT MUCH PROVIDING HELP HERE FOR OUR AREA EITHER. THEY’RE PRETTY LIGHT OUT OF THE SOUTH, BUT 83 RIGHT NOW HERE IN CINCINNATI. DEW POINTS IN THE 70S. SO IT’S FEELING LIKE WE’RE ALMOST UP TO 90 DEGREES ALREADY HERE AT NOONTIME. HAMILTON ALREADY AT 89 FOR ACTUAL TEMPERATURES, 87 IN BATESVILLE, 83 WALTON, KENTUCKY. SO CLOUD COVER SLOWLY CLEARING FROM THE NORTHWEST TO THE SOUTH AND EAST. AND AS THAT HAPPENS, WE’LL SEE THOSE TEMPERATURES INCREASE. WE’LL SEE THE HEAT INDEX VALUES RISE BACK THROUGH THOSE MID TO UPPER 90S. YOU SEE SOME COOL SPOTS HERE ON THE MAP. THAT’S JUST TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE AN ICE ISOLATED POP-UP MIGHT FORM. SO I HAD MY FULL FORECAST WILL GO THROUGH MORE OF THAT FUTURECAST HOUR BY HOUR TALKING ABOUT THIS HEAT, HUMIDITY AND MAYBE WHEN WE COULD SEE SOME RAIN CHANCES. MEGAN. YEAH. ADAM. THANK YOU. WE’RE GOING TO STICK ON THAT. THESE STEAMY TEMPERATURES MAKING TOO MUCH TIME OUTDOORS. DANGEROUS. AND THAT INCLUDES CHILDREN ON SUMMER BREAK. SO WITH SUMMER CAMP SEASON VERY MUCH IN FULL SWING, CAMP ORGANIZERS FOCUSING ON BRAKES, HYDRATION AND PLENTY OF SPLASHING AGAIN, STRAIGHT. EXCUSE ME? I HAD A SNEEZE THERE. I’M NOT SURE IF THAT WHAT THAT SOUNDED LIKE. CAMP COUNSELORS ARE ALSO MAKING SURE THE DRINKING WATER IS STOCKED TO STAY HYDRATED. THEY TOLD US CAMPS WILL CONTINUE, BUT THEY WILL KEEP CLOSE EYES ON EVERYONE OUTSIDE IN THE HEAT. WE HAVE BUSINESS AS USUAL, EXCEPT WE JUST ADD A LITTLE MORE WATER INTO THINGS. SO SPORTS WE MAY BE PLAYING WITH SPONGES AND BUCKETS OR SPRINKLERS, WATER BALLOONS. WE STILL HAVE MUSIC. WE HAVE LOTS OF SHADE AROUND OUR AREA. AND OF COURSE WE HAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL POOL OUT HERE WHERE EVERYBODY CAN COOL OFF SOME CAMPS ARE ALSO TRYING TO SHIFT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES TO THE EARLY HOURS TO AVOID THAT HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY, BETWEEN 2 AND 6. THE CDC SAYS. HEAT ILLNESS. IT HAS IMPACTED 750 PEOPLE ACROSS THE MIDWEST SINCE MONDAY, AND I’M SURE THAT WILL KEEP CLIMBING. AND AS THE TEMPERATURES ALSO CONTINUE TO CLIMB, WE’VE PUT TOGETHER A LIST OF COOLING CENTERS AND POOLS THAT ARE OPEN ACROSS THE AREA. YOU MAYBE MAYBE YOU’VE HAD YOUR LIMIT AND YOU’RE LIKE, I GOT TO GET SOMEWHERE WHERE IT’S A LITTLE BIT COOLER. YOU CAN SCAN THE QR CODE ON YOUR SCREEN OR HEAD TO OUR WEBSITE, WLWT.COM FOR THE FULL LIST. A LATE NIGHT COLLISION INVOLVING A METRO BUS HAS LEFT A MAN DEAD AND IT’S NOW UNDER INVESTIGATION. AND THE CRASH HAPPENED IN WESTWOOD. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S TODD -- LIVE FOR US AT THE SCENE WITH WHAT WE’RE LEARNING TODAY. TODD. YEAH, MEGAN AND KELLY. THE DEADLY COLLISION HAPPENED AT THIS METRO TRANSIT CENTER HERE IN WESTWOOD ALONG GLEN CROSSING WAY. EXCUSE ME? POLICE SAY IT WAS ABOUT 1030 LAST NIGHT THAT A BUS DRIVEN BY A 30 YEAR OLD WOMAN HIT A 59 YEAR OLD MAN WHO WAS, ACCORDING TO INVESTIGATORS, NEAR THE TRANSIT CENTER AT THE TIME. THAT MAN, WHOSE NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, DIED AFTER WITNESSES SAY THAT HE WOUND UP UNDERNEATH A METRO. THE METRO BUS. NOW, WE TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO WERE HERE LAST NIGHT WHEN THE FATAL COLLISION HAPPENED. TAKE A LISTEN. HERE’S HOW. A MAN WHO WAS ON THE BUS DESCRIBED WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT, AND I HEARD A BIG OLD BANG ON THE WINDOW, AND SHE WAS ALREADY TAKEN OFF. I DON’T KNOW WHERE HE CAME FROM. EVEN HONESTY. I DIDN’T EVEN SEE HIM THERE. AND HE SMACKED ON THE WINDOW AND, UM, HE JUST KIND OF DISAPPEARED. AND WE EVERYBODY ON THE BUS THOUGHT HE HIT A CURB UNTIL SOMEBODY YELLED AT HIM AND SHE STOPPED. NOW, CINCINNATI POLICE SAY SPEED AND IMPAIRMENT ARE BEING INVESTIGATED. INVESTIGATED AS CONTRIBUTING FACTORS OF THE CRASH. POLICE SPOKESMAN TELLS ME THOSE POSSIBLE FACTORS ARE NOT LIMITED TO A SPECIFIC DRIVER OR PEDESTRIAN. SO THE BOTTOM LINE AT THIS POINT, AT THIS NOON HOUR IS IT’S NOT CLEAR IF ANYONE WAS AT FAULT. REPORTING LIVE HERE IN WESTWOOD, TODD --. WLWT NEWS FIVE. ALL RIGHT. TODD, THANK YOU. AND DEVELOPING ON WLWT POLICE INVESTIGATING TWO SHOOTINGS ABOUT AN HOUR APART IN LESS THAN TWO MILES APART. THE VICTIM OF THE LATEST SHOOTING CALLED FOR HELP FROM A PARKING LOT IN A HOTEL. OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO THE COMFORT SUITES AND MAINSTAY SUITES HOTEL ON READING ROAD NEAR KINSEY AVENUE, JUST BEFORE 10:00 LAST NIGHT. POLICE TELL US THAT THE VICTIM WAS SHOT IN THE WRIST. JUST A FEW BLOCKS AWAY, AND NOW POLICE HAVE SAID THEY HAVE NOT SAID WHAT LED UP TO THE SHOOTING OR IF ANYONE IS IN CUSTODY. YOU KNOW, THAT SHOOTING HAPPENED JUST AFTER A 55 YEAR-OLD MAN WAS SHOT ON READING ROAD IN NORTH AVONDALE. POLICE SAY THE VICTIM GOT INTO A FIGHT WITH ANOTHER MAN AND WAS SHOT IN THE COURTYARD APARTMENT COMPLEX JUST BEFORE 9 P.M. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND SO FAR, POLICE HAVE NOT TOLD US IF THEY’VE MADE ANY ARRESTS. ONLY HERE ON WLWT. FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE ARE HEARING THE CALLS FOR HELP. JUST MOMENTS AFTER A LEBANON MAN WAS SHOT AND KILLED, FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF 63 YEAR-OLD ANDY RAINEY ARE STILL PROCESSING WHAT HAPPENED AT AN INTERSECTION IN LEBANON. SO WE HAVE MADE THE 911 CALLS THAT WE HAVE MOMENTS BEFORE THE GUNFIRE, AND IT’S FROM THE PERSON WHO SAYS THEY PULLED THE TRIGGER. ARE YOU INVOLVED AT ALL? YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, I SHOT A GUY. HE TRIED TO TRIED TO PUNCH ME. ARE YOU ABLE TO SECURE YOUR FIREARM? UM, YES. IT’S IN MY HOLSTER. I’VE. I CAN MY CARDS AWAY. I’M AWAY FROM MY CAR RIGHT NOW. I WANT YOU TO LISTEN TO ME RIGHT NOW. I KNOW THAT THIS IS VERY HIGH ADRENALINE, OKAY? WHEN THE OFFICERS ARE GETTING THERE, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HANDS ARE VISIBLE. OKAY? SINCE YOU PUT MY HANDS UP, I’LL LAY ON THE GROUND. WHATEVER THEY NEED. THE MAN WHO WAS SHOT, ANDY RAINEY, WAS A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF LEBANON AND A GRANDFATHER TO EIGHT LOVED ONES ARE NOW REFLECTING ON RAINEY’S LIFE. IT’S JUST NOT FAIR. MY BABIES ARE GOING TO GROW UP WITHOUT THEIR GRANDPA, THEIR PAPA. I DON’T HAVE A DAD NO MORE. IT’S NOT FAIR. AND IT’S NOT FAIR TO H
